The McLean's and their looms...

McLean & Co. is situated in the historical and artistically diverse town of Oamaru, on the east coast of the South Island of New Zealand.

After purchasing the c1918 Hattersley Domestic Weaving System in 2006 Rod gradually restored the looms while learning to weave with help from the previous owner, a variety of books and much trial and error.  Meanwhile Sue continued to teach Art at a local school while gaining qualifications in design, textiles and business management.

Today McLean & Co. specialise in weaving short runs of up to 200 metres of traditionally inspired tartan and tweed fabric using locally sourced NZ wool and alpaca fibre, and crafting limited edition textile pieces for you to treasure.

Our product lines reflect a past era of sustainability and self-reliance, one which we believe many people are searching for.

Our aim is to live and share our passion for sustainable skills and textiles; conserve, use and promote our Hattersley Domestic Weaving System, share it's history and protect it's future; and contribute artistically, socially and economically to our local and regional communities.
